If you want to help create a better world for vulnerable children and young people across the UK, then keep on reading.

This is an exceptional opportunity to help build safer childhoods, stronger families and positive futures for those that often have no one else.

Barnardo’s is the largest and oldest children’s national charity in the UK. Last year, our 8,000 staff and over 22,000 volunteers supported over 300,000 children, young people, parents and carers through 1000 vital services and running over 700 stores in our UK-wide retail network.

We are now in the fourth year of our ambitious ten-year Corporate Strategy, Better Outcomes for More Children. Our ambition is to reimagine not only our own organisation, but also how we as a society care for our children and young people. At a pivotal point in that journey, we are now seeking a Director of Children’s Services for our South East Region to play a key part in our mission to improve outcomes for the children, young people and their families that we support in diverse communities in the UK.

The Director of Children’s Services – South East is a refreshed senior leadership role, reporting directly to the new role of Corporate Director Children’s Services – Operations, and indirectly to the new Corporate Director Children’s Services – Development & Innovation. It will be responsible for driving operational excellence in the Region and working closely with leaders across Children’s Services and the wider charity to accelerate progress towards our Corporate Strategy objectives.

By leading a team of Assistant Directors of Children’s Services in your region to ensure high standards of performance and quality, and through the development of relationships with our partners and stakeholders, you will ensure the children and young people using our services are safe through effective practice, supervision and risk management.

You will represent our charity where required in the media as a brand ambassador and will therefore possess excellent communication skills. Moreover, you will work with colleagues across departments to help translate frontline knowledge and expertise into effective tools for income generation and influencing, amplifying the voice of children and young people in our services.

We are seeking a high-calibre, inspirational individual who has detailed sector knowledge, experience in leading and developing children’s services, managing complex, multi-skilled professional teams, and delivering change to budget to ensure a consistently high standard of service. You will have experience of safeguarding and quality and be a confident and assured communicator with a range of interpersonal skills that will enable you to build relationships of high quality both inside and outside of the charity.

This role is central to the success of Barnardo’s. To be successful you will need a rich mix of attitude, skills and experience, a natural ability to think outside the box and able to skilfully manage complexity.

I became part of the Barnardo’s magical journey over 5 years ago and every day since has been a privilege. I’m here because I believe we can create a better world for vulnerable children and young people. That’s what drives me and if you want to be part of this journey then we look forward to hearing from you.
